Saint Mary and Saint Mena Coptic Orthodox Church
Cranston, Rhode Island
RGB was commissioned in 2005 to design this unique Coptic Orthodox church community of 600 parishioners. Symbolism is evident in all aspects of the design. The curved apse faces east, toward the light. Twelve windows in the wall of the main dome represent the twelve disciples. The west end of the building is flagged by twin towers which identify the main entry. The exterior of the building is constructed of white synthetic stucco, synthetic masonry, white roof membrane, red Spanish tile roofs, arched roofs at the transepts and main entry, and is topped off with six domes. The main dome spans 36 feet and is accented with a sparkling gold finish. The building was completed in the 2011 for a total cost of approximately $8 million.
