Roger Williams Medical Center Emergency Department
Providence, Rhode Island
An emergency department addition as it is envisioned will extend a single level out from the current emergency department entrance. The public entrance area would pivot slightly from it's original location, near the juncture of the existing department and the new addition, towards the new addition, which will include new waiting areas and triage. Similarly, the ambulance entrance will shift slightly towards the new addition. The 15,000 square foot addition would nearly treble the existing 7,800 square foot department with 24 new private patient bays, six behavioral health bays, and six express bays planned. The existing department was constructed in 1986 with 13 patient bays, while it currently operates with 26 patient bays. Overall, the department will be able to house greater capacity and capabilities within the expanded footprint.
