Rhode Island College Adams Library
Providence, RI
RGB was contracted by Rhode Island College to design renovations to this existing 1970s era, 103,000 square foot library. Project goals were to transform the library space with a new Student Learning Commons, reduce book stack square footage through the use of high density shelving, and to reconfigure layout to house a number of student services offices and student groups in the building to increase engagement at the library. The design required multiple entrances to serve these differing needs, thoughtful use of technology and space layout, as well as furniture, fixtures, and equipment selection.
Holzman Moss Bottino Architecture (HMBA) acted as a consultant to RGB on this project. HMBA brings additional expertise in collegiate libraries. HMBA and its planning division at ForeSite have collaborated previously at Rhode Island College in conducting feasibility studies at the Student Union and the Dining/Faculty Center.
