RIPTA Transit Maintenance Facility
Providence, Rhode Island
RGB was retained by Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority (RIPTA) to design a $20 million, 95,000 square foot expansion of the Providence transit maintenance facility. RGB utilized the planning and mechanical engineering services of the internationally respected firm of Stone & Webster.
The site was once an old trolley barn. The building represents the first facility of its type in the New England area in its Compressed Natural Gas features.
The existing trolley barn aesthetic was retained by preserving various elevation elements. Original granite cornices were salvaged and relocated. As a result, the building design complements the character of the historic neighborhood.
