RIPTA Para-transit Maintenance Facility

Providence, Rhode Island

RGB was retained by RIPTA to design a $34 million expansion of their facilities. The project consisted of three major components: RIPTA Administration Offices, RIde Para-Transit Bus interior storage, and RIde Para-Transit bus maintenance. The intent of the building design was to create a new facility with state-of-the-art equipment to accommodate RIPTA's existing and future Para-Transit fleet needs. The design aesthetic was intended to respected the turn-of-the-century industrial history of the Elmwood area. This was done by designing the 139,400 square foot structure using steel and masonry, using modern techniques, but retaining a traditional form. The facility incorporated modern security, data, and repair equipment. A white reflective roofing system helps to keep the building cool, and large skylights are designed to bring 80 fc of natural light into the maintenance facility.

RGB also provides RIPTA with professional services on an on-call basis. RGB has provided existing conditions assessments, building code review, programming, presentation images, schematic design, vertical transportation study, design development, construction documents, construction administration, and construction budget estimates.
