Little Compton Public Safety Building
Little Compton, Rhode Island
This $2 million facility consolidates fire, emergency response, and police services under one roof. This 14,000 square foot building replaced two existing facilities that had become outdated and inadequate. The building program accommodated the specific needs of each group, while fostering a sense of camaraderie among the personnel. Some shared amenities included camera surveillance throughout, men's and women's locker rooms, a kitchen area, accommodations to sleep four, and secure storage space.
Police services inlcuded dispatch room, one-car secure entry, evidence and processing rooms, a booking area with an interview room, two holding cells, private and open offices, and a muster room for daily meetings.
The building was set in the historically-sensitive rural environment of Little Compton. Care was taken to complement the surrounding area through the design.
