Lawrence Apartments Fire Code

During the Newport Fire Marshal annual property review, the Owner was cited for numerous fire code infractions and violations. While some of the violations were due to normal wear and tear through use, several existing conditions were due to the upgrade of the Rhode Island Fire Safety Code, which is a retroactive code.

RGB prepared a report to the Owner detailing how to remediate the infractions and violations. Where violations could not be remediated, using our understanding of the fire code, RGB documented what conditions that could be allowed and how a single item could be approached successfully through a variance appeal to the Rhode Island Fire Board of Review and Appeals.

RGB prepared legal exhibits and demonstrated alternatives to the Fire Board. The Fire Board agreed with RGB's interpretations and unanimously confirmed the request for variance.
