Historic Farmer's Market Redevelopment

Providence, Rhode Island

RGB was commissioned to design a new mixed use development at the Historic Farmer’s Market site in Providence Rhode Island. The design depicts 100,000 square feet of retail space at street level, a 350 bed hotel housed in a nine-story tower at the west end of the site, and 100,000 square feet of office space located in a six-story tower located at the east end of the site. Parking for the retail component is developed at street level parallel to the storefronts. Hotel and office parking is integrated with the primary buildings, with additional parking located in a four-story enclosed parking garage located at the eastern edge of the development.

The site's proximity to Interstate 95 and the Route 10–Route 6 interchange influenced the design. The form is attractive to motorists with dynamic and interchangeable large scale signage and way finding that add a contemporary element to the skyline. Linear strip windows and the simple implementation of brick, metal, and glass fit within the context of downtown Providence.
